AI and machine learning roles are the most expensive part of the Polish IT market, and the most varied. A “senior AI engineer” can mean someone who fine-tunes open-weight models and runs them in production, or someone who has built a few prototypes on top of an LLM API. This guide gives current vendor rates for AI/ML roles from Poland, shows what specialists actually earn and explains which skills justify the top of the range.

All vendor rates come from our 2026 body leasing rate benchmark and match our pricing page. They are net of VAT, fully loaded, based on an 8-hour day and converted at PLN 4.30 per EUR.

How much does an AI/ML engineer from Poland cost in 2026?

Data scientist, principal300–40070–93560–74511,165–14,885

Junior AI/ML roles are rarely placed in staff augmentation, because clients typically need someone who can deliver without close supervision. We price them on request.

The benchmark also has a separate band for highly specialised AI work — for example LLM fine-tuning, retrieval pipelines at scale or computer vision in production — at PLN 280–450 per hour. That band overlaps with senior and principal ML engineers; the difference is not the job title but proven delivery of that specific capability.

What is the difference between an ML engineer and a data scientist?

A data scientist frames business questions as analytical problems, explores data, builds and validates models and communicates results. The output is often an insight, an experiment or a model prototype.

An ML engineer takes models into production: builds training and inference pipelines, sets up monitoring for data drift and model quality, optimises latency and cost, and integrates models with applications. In LLM projects, this role increasingly covers retrieval, evaluation and guardrails — see our guide to building an AI chatbot for what that work involves.

Hiring the wrong one is a common and expensive mistake. A strong data scientist hired to run a production LLM service will struggle with reliability engineering; a strong ML engineer hired to explore a new analytical question may over-engineer it. Define the output first, then the role.

How much do AI/ML specialists in Poland actually earn?

Bulldogjob’s IT Community Survey 2025 reports the following average monthly earnings for specialists in data science, machine learning and AI in Poland (employment contract: take-home pay; B2B: net amount on the invoice):

GroupEmployment contract (take-home)B2B (net invoice)
Mid / regularPLN 9,250PLN 16,022
SeniorPLN 12,675PLN 30,100

A senior invoicing PLN 30,100 a month earns the equivalent of about PLN 188 per hour at 160 hours. The vendor rate for a senior ML engineer, PLN 240–350 per hour, is higher because it also covers sourcing and technical vetting, a replacement guarantee, administration and margin — and the client pays only for hours worked.

To compare vendor rates with direct hiring, see our calculations of total employer cost in Poland in 2026 and net pay on employment vs B2B.

Which skills push an AI/ML rate up?

Within each range, these factors most often decide where a candidate lands:

  • Production track record. Models that served real traffic, with monitoring, retraining and incident handling, are worth more than notebooks and demos.
  • MLOps. Experience with feature stores, model registries, CI/CD for models and drift monitoring — the discipline described in our glossary entry on MLOps.
  • LLM engineering. Retrieval-augmented generation, evaluation frameworks, prompt and tool orchestration, and cost control for token-based APIs.
  • Domain knowledge. Credit risk, fraud detection, medical imaging or recommender systems at scale require context that general ML skills do not provide.
  • Engagement terms. In our benchmark, on-site work in large cities adds about 10–15%, and engagements under three months add 15–25%.

How do Polish AI/ML rates compare with Germany?

MarketReference rateSource
Poland, senior ML engineer (staff augmentation)EUR 445–650 per dayARDURA rate benchmark 2026
Germany, average IT freelancerEUR 95 per hour (about EUR 760 per day)freelancermap Freelancer-Kompass 2025
UK, median senior developer contractGBP 525 per dayIT Jobs Watch, six months to 16 January 2026

A senior ML engineer from Poland costs roughly 15–40% less than the average German IT freelancer. The gap is smaller than for backend or frontend developers because AI/ML skills are scarce in every market, including Poland. The German figure is an average across all IT freelancers, so treat the comparison as an order of magnitude.

How do you budget an AI/ML team?

A typical team moving an AI use case from proof of concept to production combines one senior ML engineer, one data engineer and part-time support from a backend developer and a product owner. At the midpoints of our benchmark, a senior ML engineer (PLN 295 per hour) and a senior data engineer (PLN 240 per hour) cost about PLN 85,600 a month together at 160 hours each, before part-time roles.

The larger cost driver is often not the team but the path to production: data preparation, evaluation and maintenance. Our article on AI implementation cost from proof of concept to production breaks those costs down.

How do you check a rate proposal for this role?

A rate on its own says little. Before accepting a proposal, check four things:

  • Seniority evidence. Ask which production systems the candidate built or ran, at what scale and with which tools. A senior title with only prototype experience belongs in the mid band.
  • What the rate includes. Our rates are fully loaded. If a proposal adds management fees, setup fees or charges for equipment and licences, compare the total, not the headline rate.
  • Replacement terms. How quickly the provider presents a replacement, and whether the replacement’s ramp-up time is billed.
  • Notice period. Thirty days is the market standard in staff augmentation; longer notice periods reduce the flexibility you pay for.

Our vendor selection checklist for staff augmentation covers the full list of questions.

How does ARDURA Consulting provide AI/ML specialists?

ARDURA Consulting provides AI/ML engineers and data scientists through staff augmentation: the specialist joins your team and works in your environment, while we handle sourcing, technical vetting, contracts and administration.

  • Pre-vetted specialists assessed on production experience, not only on model accuracy in a notebook
  • 2-week onboarding from signed contract to the specialist starting on your project
  • Replacement guarantee if a specialist does not fit
  • Transparent rates in line with our published benchmark

What are the key takeaways?

  1. Through staff augmentation, a senior ML engineer from Poland costs about EUR 445–650 per day and a senior data scientist EUR 410–560 per day in 2026.
  2. Senior data science, ML and AI specialists on B2B invoice on average PLN 30,100 a month (Bulldogjob 2025); the vendor rate adds sourcing, guarantees, administration and margin.
  3. Compared with the average German IT freelancer (EUR 95 per hour), a senior ML engineer from Poland costs roughly 15–40% less — a smaller gap than for general developers.
  4. Production experience, MLOps and LLM engineering skills justify the top of the range; a job title alone does not.
  5. Define the expected output before choosing between an ML engineer and a data scientist.
