Data engineers build the pipelines, warehouses and lakehouses that every analytics and AI initiative depends on. Demand has grown with AI projects, because a model is only as good as the data that reaches it — which makes experienced data engineers one of the scarcer and more expensive roles on the Polish market. This guide gives current vendor rates for data engineers from Poland and explains what drives them.
All vendor rates come from our 2026 body leasing rate benchmark and match our pricing page. They are net of VAT, fully loaded, based on an 8-hour day and converted at PLN 4.30 per EUR.
How much does a data engineer from Poland cost in 2026?
| Seniority | PLN per hour | EUR per hour | EUR per day | EUR per month (160 h) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mid | 150–200 | 35–47 | 280–370 | 5,580–7,440 |
| Senior | 200–280 | 47–65 | 370–520 | 7,440–10,420 |
| Staff / principal | 280–380 | 65–88 | 520–705 | 10,420–14,140 |
Junior data engineers are rarely placed in staff augmentation, because pipeline failures in production are expensive and clients need someone who can own them. We price junior roles on request.
For comparison, the same benchmark puts a senior backend developer at PLN 180–260 per hour and a senior data scientist at PLN 220–300 per hour. Data engineering sits between the two: more specialised than general backend work, more infrastructure-focused than modelling.
What does a data engineer do at each level?
Mid builds and maintains batch pipelines, writes transformations in SQL and Python, works with an existing orchestration tool and data warehouse, and monitors data quality with defined checks.
Senior designs data models and pipeline architecture, introduces streaming where it is justified, optimises processing costs on cloud platforms, sets up data quality and lineage, and makes decisions about tools independently.
Staff / principal designs the data platform across the organisation: warehouse or lakehouse architecture, governance, access control, domain ownership and the operating model between data producers and consumers. Our articles on data mesh versus the data warehouse and the modern data platform describe the decisions this role typically owns.
How do vendor rates compare with what engineers earn?
Public salary reports in Poland rarely separate data engineers from other IT specialists, so the most reliable reference is the all-IT benchmark. According to justjoin.it data for job offers published in 2025, the median for senior specialists was about PLN 24,780 a month on B2B contracts and PLN 21,573 gross on employment contracts; for mid-level specialists, PLN 18,900 and PLN 15,000.
At 160 hours, the senior B2B median equals about PLN 155 per hour. A senior data engineer’s vendor rate of PLN 200–280 per hour is higher for two reasons: data engineers typically earn above the all-IT median, and the vendor rate also covers sourcing and technical vetting, a replacement guarantee, administration and margin, while the client pays only for hours worked.
To compare vendor rates with direct hiring, see our calculations of total employer cost in Poland in 2026 and net pay on employment vs B2B.
Which skills push a data engineer’s rate up?
Within each range, these factors most often decide where a candidate lands:
- Distributed processing at scale. Spark, Flink or equivalent frameworks on large volumes, with attention to partitioning, cost and failure handling.
- Streaming. Kafka or cloud-native event streaming with exactly-once semantics and schema evolution.
- Modern data platforms. Hands-on experience with Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery or Microsoft Fabric, including cost governance.
- Data quality and governance. Lineage, contracts between producers and consumers, and access control in regulated industries.
- Engagement terms. In our benchmark, on-site work in large cities adds about 10–15%, and engagements under three months add 15–25%.
A short definition of the discipline is in our glossary entry on data engineering.
How do Polish data engineering rates compare with Germany?
| Market | Reference rate | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Poland, senior data engineer (staff augmentation) | EUR 370–520 per day | ARDURA rate benchmark 2026 |
| Germany, average IT freelancer | EUR 95 per hour (about EUR 760 per day) | freelancermap Freelancer-Kompass 2025 |
| UK, median senior developer contract | GBP 525 per day | IT Jobs Watch, six months to 16 January 2026 |
A senior data engineer from Poland costs roughly 30–50% less than the average German IT freelancer. The German figure is an average across all IT freelancers, not a data-engineering rate, so treat the comparison as an order of magnitude rather than a precise saving.
How do you budget a data engineering team?
A small team building a new data platform often combines one senior data engineer, one mid-level data engineer and part-time support from a platform or DevOps engineer. At the midpoints of our benchmark (PLN 240 and PLN 175 per hour), the two data engineers cost about PLN 66,400 a month together at 160 hours each.
Two cost items are easy to overlook. The first is the cloud platform itself: compute for transformations and queries can exceed the team’s cost if nobody owns it — our guide to FinOps covers how to control it. The second is data quality work after go-live, which is continuous rather than a one-off project.
How do you check a rate proposal for this role?
A rate on its own says little. Before accepting a proposal, check four things:
- Seniority evidence. Ask which production systems the candidate built or ran, at what scale and with which tools. A senior title with only prototype experience belongs in the mid band.
- What the rate includes. Our rates are fully loaded. If a proposal adds management fees, setup fees or charges for equipment and licences, compare the total, not the headline rate.
- Replacement terms. How quickly the provider presents a replacement, and whether the replacement’s ramp-up time is billed.
- Notice period. Thirty days is the market standard in staff augmentation; longer notice periods reduce the flexibility you pay for.
Our vendor selection checklist for staff augmentation covers the full list of questions.
How does ARDURA Consulting provide data engineers?
ARDURA Consulting provides data engineers through staff augmentation: the engineer joins your team, works on your platform and follows your processes, while we handle sourcing, technical vetting, contracts and administration.
- Pre-vetted engineers assessed on production pipelines, not only on SQL tests
- 2-week onboarding from signed contract to the engineer starting on your project
- Replacement guarantee if an engineer does not fit
- Transparent rates in line with our published benchmark

What are the key takeaways?
- Through staff augmentation, a mid-level data engineer from Poland costs about EUR 280–370 per day and a senior EUR 370–520 per day in 2026.
- Data engineers sit above senior backend developers and slightly below senior data scientists in our benchmark.
- Compared with the average German IT freelancer (EUR 95 per hour), a senior data engineer from Poland costs roughly 30–50% less.
- Distributed processing, streaming, modern data platforms and governance experience justify the top of the range.
- Budget for the platform and ongoing data quality, not only for the team.
