Cloud architecture is one of the most senior and most expensive roles on the Polish IT market. The price reflects responsibility: a cloud architect’s early decisions — account structure, network topology, identity model, resilience pattern — determine both the security of the environment and a large share of its running cost for years. This guide gives current vendor rates for cloud architects and cloud engineers from Poland and explains what drives them.

All vendor rates come from our 2026 body leasing rate benchmark and match our pricing page. They are net of VAT, fully loaded, based on an 8-hour day and converted at PLN 4.30 per EUR.

How much does a cloud architect from Poland cost in 2026?

Cloud engineer, mid150–20035–47280–3705,580–7,440
Cloud engineer, senior200–28047–65370–5207,440–10,420

Cloud architect, principal350–45081–105650–83513,025–16,745

Cloud engineer rates follow the DevOps band of our benchmark, because in practice the two roles overlap heavily. Cloud architects have no mid-level band: architecture is by definition a senior responsibility.

What is the difference between a cloud architect and a cloud engineer?

A cloud architect designs the target environment: the landing zone and account structure, network and connectivity, identity and security model, resilience and disaster recovery, and the cost model. The architect also decides which workloads move how — the 7R strategies we describe in our guide to cloud migration services.

A cloud engineer builds and operates that environment: writes infrastructure as code, configures services, automates deployments and handles incidents. Many engagements need one architect for a limited period and several engineers for longer.

Hiring an architect to do engineering work is expensive; hiring engineers without an architect is often more expensive later. A useful rule is to bring in an architect for the design phase and major changes, and keep engineers for delivery and operations.

How do vendor rates compare with what cloud specialists earn?

Public salary reports in Poland do not publish a separate cloud architect category, so the closest reference is DevOps. According to Bulldogjob’s IT Community Survey 2025, senior DevOps specialists on B2B contracts invoice on average PLN 29,540 net per month and take home PLN 13,466 on employment contracts; mid-level specialists invoice PLN 19,364 on B2B.

At 160 hours, PLN 29,540 equals about PLN 185 per hour. A senior cloud engineer’s vendor rate of PLN 200–280 per hour, and an architect’s PLN 250–350, sit above that because the vendor rate also covers sourcing and technical vetting, a replacement guarantee, administration and margin — and because architects typically earn above the DevOps average.

To compare vendor rates with direct hiring, see our calculations of total employer cost in Poland in 2026 and net pay on employment vs B2B.

Which skills and certifications push a cloud rate up?

Within each range, these factors most often decide where a candidate lands:

  • Professional-level certifications. AWS Solutions Architect Professional, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Google Professional Cloud Architect usually signal design experience. On their own they do not guarantee it — ask about the environments the candidate actually designed.
  • Multi-account and multi-cloud design. Landing zones with guardrails, centralised identity and network hubs across many accounts or subscriptions.
  • Security and compliance. Designing for DORA, NIS2 or healthcare requirements, including logging, key management and data residency.
  • Cost architecture. Experience with reserved capacity, savings plans, rightsizing and the organisational side of cost control described in our FinOps guide.
  • Engagement terms. In our benchmark, on-site work in large cities adds about 10–15%, and engagements under three months add 15–25%.

How do Polish cloud rates compare with Germany?

UK, median senior developer contractGBP 525 per dayIT Jobs Watch, six months to 16 January 2026

A senior cloud architect from Poland costs roughly 15–40% less than the average German IT freelancer, and a senior cloud engineer roughly 30–50% less. The gap for architects is smaller because senior cloud architecture skills are scarce in every market. The German figure is an average across all IT freelancers, so treat the comparison as an order of magnitude.

How do you budget cloud architecture work?

Architecture work is usually concentrated. A typical pattern for a new landing zone or migration is a senior cloud architect for two to three months during design, then one or two cloud engineers for build and operation. At the midpoint of our benchmark, a senior architect (PLN 300 per hour) costs about PLN 48,000 a month at 160 hours; a senior cloud engineer (PLN 240 per hour) about PLN 38,400.

If you are unsure what level of cloud and DevOps capability your organisation needs, our DevOps maturity model helps identify whether you need architecture, engineering or both.

How do you check a rate proposal for this role?

A rate on its own says little. Before accepting a proposal, check four things:

  • Seniority evidence. Ask which production systems the candidate built or ran, at what scale and with which tools. A senior title with only prototype experience belongs in the mid band.
  • What the rate includes. Our rates are fully loaded. If a proposal adds management fees, setup fees or charges for equipment and licences, compare the total, not the headline rate.
  • Replacement terms. How quickly the provider presents a replacement, and whether the replacement’s ramp-up time is billed.
  • Notice period. Thirty days is the market standard in staff augmentation; longer notice periods reduce the flexibility you pay for.

Our vendor selection checklist for staff augmentation covers the full list of questions.

What are the key takeaways?

  1. Through staff augmentation, a senior cloud architect from Poland costs about EUR 465–650 per day and a senior cloud engineer EUR 370–520 per day in 2026.
  2. Architects design the environment; engineers build and run it. Most engagements need a short architecture phase and longer engineering support.
  3. Compared with the average German IT freelancer (EUR 95 per hour), a senior cloud architect from Poland costs roughly 15–40% less.
  4. Professional-level certifications, multi-account design, security and cost architecture justify the top of the range — when backed by real environments.
  5. Budget architecture as a concentrated phase rather than a permanent role, unless your cloud estate is large and changing.
