Java remains the backbone of banking, insurance, telecoms and large e-commerce platforms in Poland, and it is one of the most frequently requested technologies in staff augmentation. This page sets out what a Java developer costs in 2026 — as a provider rate and as the developer’s own earnings — and what moves the price up or down. All provider rates come from our body leasing rate benchmark for 2026 and are net of VAT.
How much does a Java developer cost in Poland in 2026?
The table shows what a client pays for a Java developer through staff augmentation, by seniority. Daily rates assume an eight-hour day; monthly figures assume 160 billable hours. Euro values use 4.30 PLN per EUR.
| Seniority | PLN per hour | PLN per day | EUR per day | PLN per month (160 h) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Junior | 90-130 | 720-1,040 | 165-240 | 14,400-20,800 |
| Mid | 130-180 | 1,040-1,440 | 240-335 | 20,800-28,800 |
| Senior | 180-260 | 1,440-2,080 | 335-485 | 28,800-41,600 |
| Lead / principal | 260-350 | 2,080-2,800 | 485-650 | 41,600-56,000 |
The ranges are wide because “senior Java developer” covers very different profiles: someone maintaining a Spring monolith and someone designing event-driven systems on Kafka for a bank are both seniors, but they are not priced the same. On-site work in a large city usually adds 10-15%, and very short engagements of under three months add 15-25%.
How much do Java developers earn in Poland?
The provider rate and the developer’s pay are two different numbers. The most detailed public source for pay by language is the Bulldogjob IT Community Survey 2025, which reports medians for developers in Poland. On employment contracts it reports take-home (net) pay; on B2B, the net amount on the invoice.
- Developers whose main language is Java (all seniority levels): median PLN 22,500 on B2B and PLN 10,500 take-home on employment.
- Senior backend developers (all backend languages): median PLN 25,000 on B2B and PLN 14,000 take-home on employment.
- Mid-level backend developers: median PLN 17,000 on B2B and PLN 9,416 take-home on employment.
A take-home salary of PLN 14,000 corresponds to roughly PLN 23,000 gross a month under 2026 tax rules. We explain the conversion step by step in our comparison of B2B and employment net pay. A B2B invoice of PLN 25,000 a month is about PLN 156 per hour at 160 hours — close to the PLN 170 an hour we use as a typical senior B2B rate in our cost models.
These are survey medians, not offers. Java specialists in finance, with deep Spring and Kafka experience, regularly earn well above them.
Why is the provider rate higher than the developer’s own rate?
A senior Java developer invoicing PLN 150-170 an hour directly and the same developer placed through a provider at PLN 180-260 an hour are not the same purchase. The provider rate includes:
- Recruitment and vetting — sourcing, technical interviews and reference checks, which a company would otherwise pay for through an agency or its own HR team.
- A replacement guarantee — if the developer leaves or does not fit, the provider supplies a replacement.
- Administration — the contract with the specialist, invoicing and compliance.
- The provider’s margin.
The client also pays only for hours worked. There is no pay for holidays, sick leave or gaps between projects. We calculate how these factors add up against direct employment and direct B2B in our analysis of total employer cost in Poland in 2026. In that model, a directly hired senior costs about PLN 219 per productive hour, including holidays, sick days and amortised recruitment.
What pushes a Java developer’s rate up?
Within each seniority band, the price depends mostly on the ecosystem and the domain:
- Modern Java and Spring. Experience with current LTS releases — Java 21 and Java 25, released in September 2025 — and Spring Boot 3 is standard for senior roles. Developers who can migrate legacy Java EE or Java 8 systems to current versions are in demand and price accordingly.
- Distributed systems. Kafka, event-driven architecture, microservices and observability move a developer towards the top of the senior band.
- Cloud and containers. Production experience with Kubernetes and a major cloud provider (AWS, Azure or GCP) is increasingly expected, not a bonus.
- Regulated domains. Banking, insurance and payments add requirements such as security, audit trails and regulations like DORA. Developers who have worked under them are harder to find.
- Leadership. A tech lead who can make architecture decisions and mentor a team is priced in the lead band, PLN 260-350 an hour.
Certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional show a baseline, but in practice clients pay for proven delivery experience rather than certificates.
How do Polish Java rates compare with Germany and the UK?
The average hourly rate of an IT freelancer in Germany is EUR 95 (freelancermap Freelancer-Kompass 2025), about EUR 760 for an eight-hour day. A senior Java developer from Poland through staff augmentation costs EUR 335-485 a day, so the Polish rate is typically 35-55% lower — and the German figure is a direct freelancer rate, without any agency margin.
In the UK, the median contract rate for a senior developer was GBP 525 a day in the six months to 16 January 2026 (IT Jobs Watch), about EUR 610. Against that, the Polish senior rate is roughly 20-45% lower. The difference shrinks for niche profiles and grows for mainstream ones, where the Polish market is deep.
What monthly budget should you plan for a Java team?
A realistic budget starts from the monthly figures in the table. A team of one lead, two seniors and one mid-level Java developer at the middle of each band costs about:
- Lead: PLN 305 per hour × 160 h = PLN 48,800
- Two seniors: 2 × PLN 220 × 160 h = PLN 70,400
- Mid: PLN 155 × 160 h = PLN 24,800
That is about PLN 144,000 a month, or roughly EUR 33,500. Replacing one senior with a mid-level developer saves around PLN 10,400 a month, but it also changes how much the team can deliver without supervision. It is usually worth keeping at least two developers who can work independently.
What should a request include to get an accurate Java quote?
A precise request narrows the rate band and shortens the time to start. Before asking providers for a Java developer, it is worth writing down:
- The actual scope of work — new development, maintenance or migration, and the parts of the system the developer will own.
- The stack in detail — Java and Spring Boot versions, Kafka or other messaging, build tools, plus the cloud and CI/CD tools the team uses.
- Domain and constraints — a regulated industry, security requirements, and the languages the developer must work in, such as English or German.
- The working model — remote or on-site, time-zone overlap, the expected start date and the length of the engagement.
- The team around the role — team size, whether there is a tech lead and how technical decisions are made.
The last point matters more than it seems. A senior developer joining a team without a lead often has to take on part of the lead’s work, which moves the right profile — and the rate — upwards. Stating this at the start avoids a mismatch after onboarding.
When is staff augmentation better than hiring a Java developer directly?
Hiring directly is cheaper per hour if you need the same person for several years and can find them in a reasonable time. Staff augmentation wins when the need is time-limited, urgent or hard to fill. In our cost model, the break-even point against a direct B2B contract is about nine months: for shorter engagements, or roles with high turnover, staff augmentation is cheaper. We compare the two models in more detail in B2B contract or body leasing in 2026.
How can you hire a Java developer through ARDURA Consulting?
We provide Java developers through staff augmentation: the specialist joins your team, works in your tools and processes, and you are invoiced for hours worked. Before proposing a rate, we check which seniority and profile the role really needs — a well-specified mid-level developer is sometimes a better choice than an expensive senior.
Current rate ranges for all roles are on our pricing page, and a broader overview of developer rates in Poland is in our software development rates guide. If you are planning a Java team, talk to our team and we will prepare a proposal for your project.
