Python is used in Poland for three quite different kinds of work: web and API backends, data engineering, and machine learning. The name of the language is the same, but the cost of a developer depends heavily on which of these three you need. This page sets out what a Python developer costs in 2026 — as a provider rate and as the developer’s own earnings. All provider rates come from our body leasing rate benchmark for 2026 and are net of VAT.

How much does a Python developer cost in Poland in 2026?

The table shows what a client pays for a Python backend developer through staff augmentation, by seniority. Daily rates assume an eight-hour day; monthly figures assume 160 billable hours. Euro values use 4.30 PLN per EUR.

SeniorityPLN per hourPLN per dayEUR per dayPLN per month (160 h)
Junior90-130720-1,040165-24014,400-20,800
Mid130-1801,040-1,440240-33520,800-28,800
Senior180-2601,440-2,080335-48528,800-41,600
Lead / principal260-3502,080-2,800485-65041,600-56,000

For machine learning engineers the benchmark has a separate band: PLN 180-240 an hour for mid-level, PLN 240-350 for senior and PLN 350-450 for principal. Senior data engineers cost PLN 200-280 an hour. On-site work in a large city usually adds 10-15%, and very short engagements of under three months add 15-25%.

How much do Python developers earn in Poland?

The provider rate and the developer’s pay are two different numbers. The most detailed public source for pay by language is the Bulldogjob IT Community Survey 2025. On employment contracts it reports take-home (net) pay; on B2B, the net amount on the invoice.

  • Developers whose main language is Python (all seniority levels): median PLN 18,500 on B2B and PLN 10,000 take-home on employment.
  • Senior backend developers (all backend languages): median PLN 25,000 on B2B and PLN 14,000 take-home on employment.
  • Mid-level backend developers: median PLN 17,000 on B2B and PLN 9,416 take-home on employment.

The Python median is lower than the Java one (PLN 22,500 on B2B), but the survey does not break language medians down by seniority, so part of the difference may simply reflect a different mix of experience levels and roles in each group. A take-home salary of PLN 10,000 corresponds to roughly PLN 15,000 gross a month under 2026 tax rules; we explain the conversion in our comparison of B2B and employment net pay.

These are survey medians, not offers. Python developers with production machine learning or large-scale data experience earn well above them.

Why is the provider rate higher than the developer’s own rate?

A senior Python developer invoicing PLN 150-170 an hour directly and the same developer placed through a provider at PLN 180-260 an hour are not the same purchase. The provider rate includes:

  • Recruitment and vetting — sourcing, technical interviews and reference checks.
  • A replacement guarantee — if the developer leaves or does not fit, the provider supplies a replacement.
  • Administration — the contract with the specialist, invoicing and compliance.
  • The provider’s margin.

The client also pays only for hours worked, with no pay for holidays, sick leave or gaps between projects. We calculate how this compares with direct employment and direct B2B in our analysis of total employer cost in Poland in 2026. In that model, a directly hired senior costs about PLN 219 per productive hour.

What pushes a Python developer’s rate up?

Within each seniority band, the price depends mostly on the kind of Python work:

  • Web and API backends. Django and FastAPI are the most common frameworks. Experience with asynchronous code, API design and performance tuning moves a developer up the senior band.
  • Data engineering. Pipelines in Spark or dbt, orchestration with Airflow and work with cloud data warehouses put a developer into the data engineer band, PLN 200-280 an hour for a senior.
  • Machine learning in production. Training models is only part of the job; deploying, monitoring and retraining them is where experience is scarce. Proven production ML experience moves a developer into the ML engineer band.
  • LLM and AI integrations. Building applications on language models — retrieval, evaluation, guardrails — is a fast-growing skill set with a thin talent pool.
  • Cloud. Production experience with AWS, Azure or GCP, containers and infrastructure as code is increasingly expected at senior level.

The Just Join IT salary report 2026 notes that in 2025 average B2B offers for Python grew noticeably more than employment offers — a sign of where competition for experienced people is strongest.

How do Polish Python rates compare with Germany and the UK?

The average hourly rate of an IT freelancer in Germany is EUR 95 (freelancermap Freelancer-Kompass 2025), about EUR 760 for an eight-hour day. A senior Python developer from Poland through staff augmentation costs EUR 335-485 a day, so the Polish rate is typically 35-55% lower — and the German figure is a direct freelancer rate, without any agency margin.

In the UK, the median contract rate for a senior developer was GBP 525 a day in the six months to 16 January 2026 (IT Jobs Watch), about EUR 610. Against that, the Polish senior rate is roughly 20-45% lower. For senior ML engineers the gap is smaller, because their rates in Poland are higher.

What monthly budget should you plan for a Python team?

A mixed team for a data-driven product — one lead, one senior backend developer, one senior ML engineer and one mid-level developer — at the middle of each band costs about:

  • Lead: PLN 305 per hour × 160 h = PLN 48,800
  • Senior backend: PLN 220 × 160 h = PLN 35,200
  • Senior ML engineer: PLN 295 × 160 h = PLN 47,200
  • Mid: PLN 155 × 160 h = PLN 24,800

That is about PLN 156,000 a month, or roughly EUR 36,300. The ML engineer is the most expensive seat, so it pays to check whether the role really needs model training or mainly integration of existing models, which a strong backend developer can often handle.

What should a request include to get an accurate Python quote?

A precise request narrows the rate band and shortens the time to start. Before asking providers for a Python developer, it is worth writing down:

  • The actual scope of work — new development, maintenance or migration, and the parts of the system the developer will own.
  • The stack in detail — Python version and frameworks such as Django or FastAPI, data tools such as Spark or Airflow, and any ML libraries, plus the cloud and CI/CD tools the team uses.
  • Domain and constraints — a regulated industry, security requirements, and the languages the developer must work in, such as English or German.
  • The working model — remote or on-site, time-zone overlap, the expected start date and the length of the engagement.
  • The team around the role — team size, whether there is a tech lead and how technical decisions are made.

The last point matters more than it seems. A senior developer joining a team without a lead often has to take on part of the lead’s work, which moves the right profile — and the rate — upwards. Stating this at the start avoids a mismatch after onboarding.

When is staff augmentation better than hiring a Python developer directly?

Hiring directly is cheaper per hour if you need the same person for several years and can find them in a reasonable time. Staff augmentation wins when the need is time-limited, urgent or hard to fill — which is often the case with ML roles. In our cost model, the break-even point against a direct B2B contract is about nine months. We compare the two models in B2B contract or body leasing in 2026.

How can you hire a Python developer through ARDURA Consulting?

We provide Python developers through staff augmentation: the specialist joins your team, works in your tools and processes, and you are invoiced for hours worked. Before proposing a rate, we check whether the role needs a backend developer, a data engineer or an ML engineer, because the difference in cost is significant.

Current rate ranges for all roles are on our pricing page, and a broader overview is in our software development rates guide. If you are planning a Python team, talk to our team.
